Forrest Kelly:On this episode, we're diving into the vibrant world of none other than Rasmus Emborg. He is the author of the groundbreaking book Revolution.
Rasmus is an international wine expert, entrepreneur, and who's passionate, of course, and obviously about elevating to its rightful place alongside red and white wines. His book has sparked conversations across the wine industry and inspired a whole new appreciation for this refreshing and versatile varietal.
Let's get into our conversation with Rasmus. Tell me a little bit about your background.
Rasmus Emborg:I'm a journalist by education and you can say also by heart. I've been working in the media industry for many years. I'm a bit of a foodie and like also beer and wine. Some years ago I wrote a book about beer.
And the past years I've been digging very much into the world of Brazil wine due to the fact that my wife and I have been the proud owner of a small vineyard in Provence for now 12 years. So this has given me the inspiration.
But yeah, I live in Copenhagen, I work in Copenhagen, I travel a bit around the world, and I'm a father of three girls and a grandfather of two boys, so I'm a. I'm a privileged man.
Forrest Kelly:Did you write this book by yourself or you've got a co writer?
Rasmus Emborg:Yeah, I've been doing this together with my good friend Jens Honore, who is a photographer, and we've been traveling around the world to visit some of the most significant producers of rose wine. And we've been doing everything together. He's been taking all the photos and I've been writing all the words.
And every photo and every word in the book is original and is a result of our journey around in the world of rose wine.
Forrest Kelly:So when did you figure out, okay, there's possibly a book, let's do a book. When did that happen?
Rasmus Emborg:I will Turn back to 12 years ago when my wife and I had a simple walk around in a small southern French village and we came passed by the window of a real estate agent where we stopped to admire some pictures of houses for sale.
And yeah, little did we know that one month later we would be the owner of a small vineyard in France, Provence, with around one and a half hectares vines. And you can say that straw became the starting point for the book because the vineyard we bought mainly grew shirah and grenache.
And grapes that were most used for rose wine. And yeah, for good reason. I started to drinking the wine and I started exploring the world of rose glass by glass.
And as I got to know some of the region's best producers, I began to see the incredible effort and artistry that went to making truly great. And that gave me the inspiration to dig into this world and tell the story about how roseille has developed in the past couple of decades.
Forrest Kelly:Whose idea was it? Was it your idea or your wife's idea to buy this with the wine attached the property?
Rasmus Emborg:My wife and I, we make decisions like that together.
Forrest Kelly:Okay.
Rasmus Emborg:But I mean, I truly can say that besides from having our three daughters, this is one of the best decisions we've ever made.
Forrest Kelly:In our next episode, as we continue our conversation with Rasmus and Revolution, we find out if his view or taste of has changed.
Rasmus Emborg:Yeah, Forrest, you got a point here.
Because before I bought the vineyard or we bought the vineyard, I had a glass of rose every now and then and then, usually on a hot day at the coast or at a swimming pool.
But when I started exploring the the world of rose and drinking a lot of it, testing different varieties, getting to know the different producers, and so on, it was really a big experience.
Forrest Kelly:The book is Rose Revolution by Rasmus Emborg. Get it on Amazon or wherever you buy books. Simon and Schuster, Barnes and Noble.
